Hello everybody!
I have been keen on getting started on some DIY, both for the fun of building and the great savings compared to buying "finished" gear.
So I got myself a Weller 40W, a MM, pliers and solder-sucker. I have a panavise/magnifier and some generic 60/40 0,8mm. Was thinking to get some 0,4mm 60/40 (as I can`t seem to find 63/37 at my local dealer: https://www.elfaelektronikk.no/elfa3...init.do?init=1)
I just ordered a couple of "LINE2AMP"`s from DIY Recording Equipment Store to interface my Korg PME-40X modular effects, and am thinking these are great beginners kits. I also got some of the training boards with resistors to practice my soldering.
After that, I was thinking of getting a couple of Capi VP26`s. These will actually be my studio`s first set of pre-amps! As I mostly make electronica/dub/techno without much actual recording, I have gotten by so far.
So, as these will be my first preamps, they will have to tackle alot of different sources, altough through a limited set of mics (that I have not bought so far).
So, reading about the VP26, they seem to be the easiest build together with the VP25 and 312. They also seem to be a bit more colorful than the other two. Is it a wise choice, or should I go for the 312?
As I am primarily a synth-guy, these would also serve as synth-interfaces.
I was thinking about picking up a couple of the PassiveDI`s when available from DIYRec, and use them with the VP26`s (instead of jumping straight on the 312DI`s, as they are more complicated builds`s). You also have the VP28 (with Line input!) and the Hairball Lola`s with DI, but again same as 312DI? And "more difficult" means more parts and tighter PCB?
What would be the difference between running my synths/drum-machines through say the passive DI (DIYREC) and then to the mic input of the preamp, to using one of these:

or this

and then to the mic-input?
I guess none of the gear I will interface it with (Elektron boxes, Waldorf XT) are instrument level, but rather (not so strong) line signals. I guess my space-echo is "proper instrument level", and would be the better choice for the DI input, and the Line-Pad for the synths/drum-machines?
My ELi Lil-Freq`s DI`s seem to handle both line and instrument levels with ease.
Lots of questions.... hope someone can chime in.
Thanks in advance from a diy newb
