£1,000 GBP with 3 hours to go. I've seen quite a few 'music centres' recently with high BIT tags, but didn't realise they actually achieved something near that... Ye gads. Being based in East London, epicentre of trendy fads, it wouldn't surprise me if one of my neighbours bought the thing... To hell with how it sounds, it looks cool, right? The seller probably found it in a skip :)

Or, to be more accurate I would have stripped it for screws etc and then taken it to the tip!  ;)

We definitely either had one when I was a wean, or knew someone who did. I recognise the knobs!

This seller knows his stuff! He got £1K for it - I couldn't do that! I must be a right hack!

Don't despair if you didn't get a chance to bid on that gem, its more upmarket sister unit's for sale: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/retro-1970s-sharp-SG-450E-record-player-radio-cassette-player-/181099177684?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14587%26meid%3D6177478038732178949%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D3%26sd%3D221197296671%26

I've salvaged things like that from the bin. Put them on the Finnish ebay equivalent. Cassette decks from the late seventies command high price even if the specs are sh*te, and I've found three already! The hipsters love them indeed.

[edit]

for example I scored this one, http://www.classic-audio.com/technics-rs646-ds-p-112.html

it's the look that matters and admittedly these are all rather retro-sexy. looks good on instagram is all that matters, if it has speakers and runs on batteries is a welcome bonus so they can take it out and flaunt.

Also be careful about auctions like this is that they can be loaded. The people who fall into this trap are often vulnerable types who make the mistake of putting a high headroom in a single bid. The auctioneer gets his friends to to raise the bid to clock up. If it is landed with their friend they agree to cancel the transaction hence no e-bay fee is charged.
