How a BBD delay chip functions

I generally don't watch such videos but tried to watch that one... I couldn't

I was working with still experimental Phillips BBDs back in the early 70s. I worked for a company that used them to make a pitch shifter for sped up talking book playback. Later in 1976 I did a kit article in Popular Electronics using the BBD that Panasonics (Matsushita) licensed from Phillips.

I have an old Evans Echopet 50, that I tweaked a bit to get longer delay times and put some fresh caps in the powersupply.

It's really grainy, but it's a sound, that if you are after that, only a old bunch of buckets will give you that.

I love it, not on everything, but it's a nice thing to have.

weird...I didn't see or link a video? Was curious what you thought about the product...Sounds familiar....

I didn't watch the video... IIRC Roger Fisher bought my $39 BBD mono delay line kit back in 1976.

I also provided instructions on how to configure the mono delay as a flanger.

Didn't know your name was custom-made back then...lol
It wasn't... My kit company was called Phoenix Systems.

I sold Fisher*** the mono BBD kit for $39. I think I offered a variable clock add on PCB for $15.

It sounds like somebody was inspired by that old cheap BBD kit...... or not. 🤔

My Loft 440/450 studio delay line/flanger design was better known and more respected.

**** There were two Fisher brothers, Mike and Roger in the original band, but they didn't make a later cut. I think Roger was the one who built my kit flanger but it might have been Mike.

interpolationed it... 😁
The purpose of the Popular Electronics construction articles was to provide detailed information to support PE's roughly 500k circulation to be able to build working circuits. I have no problem with someone taking that basic technology and turning it into a commercial product.

Back during that time frame I designed a couple consumer hifi delay systems for Bozak, not to mention professional studio efx for Loft.
