Do a search at diystompboxes there have been good threads about this over the years. Sometimes you can adjust it for octave sounds

Went through a bunch of threads,

mine does the 1 kc whine thing at certain settings

Using 0.1 I/O caps instead of 0.022 seems to be the ticket.

I bet that converting this to a stomp box is what causes the oscillation as it is supposed to hang right off the guitar jack, the extra input cable on the stomp box version might be to blame, will do an experiment.
