Ed Anderson was kind enough to send me this Neve LO1166 for "inspection"!:razz:

And a bonus UTC P-12 200:600.

I am starting a new thread because that last one is too big. I could not open up the last 1166, just do testing. This guy is coming apart so I can render unsolved misteries like the gap thickness/material and verification that is indeed the same winding structure as it's brother, the un-gapped 2567.

Heck, I might even be able to rewind this for Ed and send it back now that I have my high tech winding machine! :razz:

Anyway, stay tuned for the gory dissection.

And full props to ED!!! :guinness: :guinness: :guinness: :guinness:

OK, the whole enchilada on one pdf. Right click and save before the cops get here!

It looks rough, but prints out alright.

S= Start
F= Finish

Wound just like the 2567 as expected.
Gap is 0.003

LO-1166.pdf (275 kb)

Let me know if any questions.

So, what does it all mean? Is the sound we know from the 1272 family based largely on the this mama? Someone was saying somewhere that the input trafo imparts little character and is quite clean, but the output puts a stamp on the sound...

Have you taken any vtb9049/1148 appart to see the difference?
If not I can send you one! Very curious about the difference between them!

the wire size of the sec B is .013" , it not should be .010" at least the DCR is more consecuent.

I`m wrong? why the sec B is of .013"?

I believe that is correct, they wanted to balance the dcr.
The Sec B winding diameter is larger than Sec A, and there are 522 turns instead of 261.

the complete secA is 522 turns too.

if the sec B use 0.013" wire the DCR should be between 10.99 and 13.23
if it is of 0.010" the DCR is between 15.28 and 20.8 , more close to 21.72.

for DCR balance the outside half of the secA should be of 0.013" isn`t?

I think the geometry of the winding structure balance the DCR . the large of the outside half of the primary A compensates the smaller resistance of the inside primary half. As the sec A is between the two half of the sec B, the dcr will be near .

I`m a novice on transformers so all look strange .
