Helluuu!

Some compressors as a funktion called "makeup"
is this just a simple gain stage with a pot to adjust
the gain, or is it a expander cirquit (ota) wich follows
the RMS detector to flattening out the gain after the
compressor?

And why can i only chose between a Guinness and a Sadam?
Strange pub this is!!

the makeup function is nothing more than gain after the compression(or other) circuits.

and who needs more than Guinness or SamAdams??

:green:

In a VCA compressor, this is added to the control voltage to provide gain (the compressor portion reduces gain). It typically is not a separate amplifier - the same VCA that does the compression does the makeup gain.

The idea here is if you have a 2:1 compression, with a threshold of -10dB, and you feed in a signal of 0dB. The output will be about -5dB because the input is 10dB above the threshold, and a 2:1 ratio signals that the output should be reduced 5dB. If you want the output signal back up to 0dB then you add 5dB of makeup gain.

With these settings, a -10dB input signal would result in an output signal of -5dB.

Maybe some whiskey or vodka would be good?
