Making a LDC Capsule - Videos

Has anyone tried making their own thermal evaporation deposition machine for nickel/gold plating mylar film? I have seen the post here Photos of deposition system and it seems a lot simpler and cheaper than trying to source your own metalized PET film (nickel or gold) which I've had no luck in finding (the only source I can find is for metalized aluminum mylar [5uM]). The hardest and most expensive part is most likely creating the vacuum using a diffusion pump which is a moderately expensive item in and of itself.

Ideally, I'm looking for nickel PET film however this seems completely impossible to source.

iirc, the complicating part is really the hard vacuum needed

The one I had pulled a vacuum in 2 stages, and the pump alone was $1.5-2k pre 2020 inflation dollars.
