Just for fun, 'cause that's what this is about, I made a couple of more dynamics in "fancy" mic cases. This is just an experiment and the results were fairly good. The TLM clone body with the SM57 cloned motor has a Shure 51A3030 step up transformer in the base. The black mic has a KAM RT1 motor with a Shure transformer. I tried to make out the grounding the best I could and used the 'gold plated' connectors provided. Found everything on ebay. Cost for the TLM clone body $40, black body was $20, Shure transformer $12, SM57 clone motor $8, KAM RT1 motor $20

Interesting projects! I once did something similar, not quite as fancy but almost daily in use.

An old Schuman MDS3 with new dynamic cartridge, I tried a few. Among them also replacement cartridges for SM57/58 from China.

Now I have a Beyerdynamic capsule in it from an obsolete wireless microphone.

what do they sound like compared to say a 57 or 58?
Sound is similar but different. The KTM capsule is flatter sounding , not much mid range bump like the Shure. The transformer is not recommended for the KTM but I used it anyways. Nice, fat, dynamic punch with plenty of output, very little noise as well.

Looks like the clone 57 I'm using from China, They sound quite good for $8. Have you tried inserting a transformer as well?

Yes, I had tried a simple China Clone transformer briefly, but I found it not so good. The sound of the China catridges on the other hand is quite good (for the money), I found them somewhat harsh in the treble compared to a real SM57 and perhaps a bit thinner. But the differences are small and actually only audible in direct comparison.

Update: I took this cheap mic body, and mounted a KTM shure clone motor with the rear vent opened up (removed the cap to make it fit!) and a shure transformer in the base. The result is a bi-directional dynamic that sounds a bit funky but usable, maybe! Because of the body style, I've name it the D700 Case $20, KTM Motor $17, Transformer $12, Fun $Priceless

I've got to ask: Where did you get that case? I want one.

Edit: I found something similar, but not at that price (especially after shipping!)
