I modded this mic with a 6N1P and a Analog Devices SSM2142, I recently tweaked it again for a rounder sound.

A DIY hybrid circuit - that's way cool! :thumb:

Please give more sound description (how it compares to it's original self and other mics) and "tweaking" info! :green:

It never even crossed my ming to use the SS2142 in place of a transformer. Such a sensible thing to do in these cheaper mics too. I think I will have to try this with a MXL.

The mic now has a cleaner, much more defined sound in other words it now has a expensive sound... after much use I brought down the top end a little, I'm happy with it.

The "acoustic chamber" I like that is DIY too. The foam is actually that polyuretane stuff they use on beds, you can get it at any walmart or where ever. It sounds great.

I would like to know about the circuit you used. I have a 57 that I was going to use the capsule for a G7. But your mod looks tempting.

Interesting idea to use the SSM chip to do the transformers job. Curious how it sounds.

Rowan,

please can you post some short MP3 files with examples to have an idea how it sounds?
