Hi,

I found a great vintage TAB eq for a good price, but it has a micro d connector (centronics) on the back instead of the usual t-2701 tuchel. The seller doesn't know how to wire this up. How can I connect two xlr's as well as power to this?

Here's a pic:

you need the centronics connector it mates to and the pinout. From there it should be pretty straight forward. Looks to have more then enough pins to connection balanced input and output as well as power.

So I need to hack a centronics cable so that on one end it'll be the centronics female and on the other XLR and power? Is that so simple?

I don't have the pinout for the centronics connector, only for the usual tuchel.

yes, but i would not hack a printer/computer cable as I doubt it would have any shielding in it. unshielded wires next to power is a big no no if it is ac and not the best practice if it is dc. my personal opinion is that if you plan on using this  without the tab rack frame and never plan to use it with a tab rack frame, replace the connector all together and it is no longer a problem.

More over have you heard the eq before? Just because it is vintage and a tab does not automatically make it  a great eq. Might be more trouble then it is work in the long run.

What do you mean by "tab rack frame"? The metal c-shaped frame inside the rack which you slide the modules into? No I don't have those but I can get a few. Why is that important?

No I've never heard the EQ and can't audition it, but the word is that it's fantastic. My plan is to get one "vintage" discrete resonance eq like this one for tracking, and two clean neumann or filtek eq's that could also work on the master bus.

Thanks for helping.

O.k. By rack frame I am referring to the rack, the modules would slide into. I called it a rack frame as the modules would fit into the frame and you can rack it up. I hope that clears it up some. If you plan on using it with a tab rack. Then the rack should be pre wired completely or partially and the eq module slides into the rack. If you are planning on using the module  in a rack case like a 2 space box or whatever, then the centronics can be replaced and you can rewire the end for a different connector or set of connectors.

speaking of the eq, do you have a model number?  Can you post some front pics? Also I don't think that connector is a micro connector, it is a d style but micro implies small, hardly small.

The seller told me that it reads "amphenol 57-10240" on the connector...

I don't have an original Danner size rack for the modules but I'm looking for one. Even if I had it wouldn't have these female connectors, all Danner modules work with tuchel 2701. This one has been modified and I don't have the pinout for this connector.

nice now I know which modules you speak of. Anyway should be kind of easy to work out the pinout. Maybe someone round here has a schematic avialable? kubi perhaps. As for the connector, easy to work out the other end as you have a part number now.
