Hi,

What USB or Firewire Interface Preamp and Mics do you recomend to me for Acoustics Measurements by Laptop???.....that is for the Sample Champion and Smaart Softwares!

Thanks anticipated.
Opacheco.

You need something reasonably good quality.

Some cheaper USB interfaces do not do well the 'full-duplex' operation which is required by good analysis software, like Smaart.

Better USB interfaces do it no problem.

Firewire can work but also can be a problem on some systems.
ne of my firewire interfaces behaves differently on different systems!

Generally speaking, I would say test it with your system before buying.

You don't say Mac or PC or what cost level you are looking at.

For higher end - RME interfaces. They have a good reputation.
For lower end, I like some M-Audio or Motu products.

I think the lower end works perfectly fine. The higher end would be more refined sound
ie. lower noise floor, less distortion, higher dbFS output level.

Good luck with it.

At work we are investigating Dante / AVB / Ravenna network based solutions for our professional use. right now these are quite expensive, but I reckon price will drop soon on these Ethernet based solutions, specially two channel modules as audinate just came out with a new 2in/2out chipset that will allow cheaper solutions
. two additional points to check for beside true synchronous I/O operation mic pre with good functionality (nice gain range, 48V phantom, bus or battery powered if possible) and a stable driver, preferably ASIO in the PC world.

I think USB can be a good choice if well implemented. we have successfully used presonus, focusrite and other specialized units like the dutch duran audio, rme is a traditional place to look for high quality interfaces and I am sure there are some more.

right now we a re considering a multichannel frontend from dspecialists, a german company specifically tuned for easera / systune.

- cheers,

michael

alexc,

Thanks for your comments!....What RME unit could you advise to me for my Windows System??

Let me see if I undestood so well!!......do you work in Dante / AVB / Ravenna?? right??..... and there you use some presonus, focusrite and other specialized units like the dutch duran audio, rme interfaces......am I rigth??. I need to test with two measurements at time. What unit specific do you recomend to me??

I use Windows in my Laptop.

I would look at the RME ucx for a smaller unit or the ufx for the bigger for PC Windows 7.

They have a great reputation for reliability and also sound quality.
Have both a USB and firewire connect - I'll bet they work very well on a variety of pcs and noptebooks.

Can't go wrong if you are in that price bracket. That would be my pick for a portable measurement system.

Going lower could be Motu, M-Audio and I quite like the Focusrite Safire series.
I think these are all similar in terms of audio quality and operational reliability.
Quite good but pays to do your homework about what works in your system.
