There is this Japanese type of fencing, called kendo. I wish to make a velocity sensitive suit so the different regions trigger different sounds. It'd basically be stylized latex pads.

M-Audio makes a wireless midi transmitter, so the hard calc is out of the way. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MidAir/

any help on the other stuff would be much appreciated. piezos??
Oh, noob.

I read the meta and I dint see much about samarais. I suppose I should google 'drum triggers' and not waste much more of your time. Anything about threshold setting would be splendid as well. wanna gate the noise if ya know what i mean. right now I'm thinking velcro everything. do a kinda performance art piece.

I got a camara so any progress would be shared. This is going to be hilarious. I'm a kid of the 80s and that ninja ish is mystical to us.

Yep, not a lot about samurais in the meta's, but there's heaps about ninjas, but of course ninjas are highly skilled in the art of deception and camouflage, so it's likely you won't be able to find them :green:

So you want to play a Ninja Tune?

Maybe you should contact other ninjas: www.ninjatune.net

What are you going to use as a MIDI 'Brain' module if you intend to have different regions?

I, too appreciate the artistry of ninjosity. I was a child in the 80's, and my cousin and I had our grandma make ninja masks for us. I was the green ninja.

Once we were followed by two neighborhood girls. We managed to slip around a corner and out of our ninja suits. They approached and somehow they knew immediately that we were the ninjas.

The green material that my grandmother had used to make the mask had bled all over my face.

I don't think I ever outgrew those ninja days, (Aikido, Kenpo) but as I get older Samurai are starting to look a little more appealing

What about ripping something like this appart...

... and rewiring the pads with longer wires so you could attach them wherever you want, and plugging it into the MidiAir?

One of these might work:

and http://infusionsystems.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/21/products_id/98

Maybe a Bang or a TapTile. (They probably contain piezos). Not cheap though.

If you want to DIY, the easiest way would be a sensor hooked to a microcontroller that talks MIDI. Midibox has a lot of info and designs for the latter, as a sensor you would be looking for an accelerometer; Digi-Key has several of these, or have a look at SparkFun for complete boards.

Enjoy,

JDB.
