ive got a ribbon mic and i can not get any audable noise out of it it is verry old a Electro voice V1 vilosity mic. all i can get out of it handeling noise.

Very often, because of contamination, the contacts lose conductivity, so first, disconnect the ribbon, and measure it. Then check the trafo for continuity, with ribbon disconnected.

it works now, kind of my shop is at home all i have there to test it is an old yamaha md8 and i have to turn the pres all the way up any sujestions?

Some good ribbons are in sensitivity between dynamic and condenser.
(==ommit "generally")
