Hi - first time poster, I saw there's another thread on here called MS10 repair, but as it's an old thread with a different issue I thought a new thread was appropriate.

I have an MS10 which is making no sound, and when you pick it up you can hear something rattling around. So although I have almost no knowledge in electronics, I thought I'd open it up and see if I can spot something obvious which need screwing back in.

Having unscrewed everything and opened it up, I can see 2 wires which are attached at one end only.

There's a black wire which is connected at one end to the signal out jack. I'm guessing it's mean to be connected to the bottom of the chassis where there's an earth symbol.

There's also a yellow/green wire which is originating where the power cord enters the chassis.

Any help here would be very appreciated.

Is this a korg ms10 synth?
What pin on the signal out is the black wire attached to? I doubt it's ground. You could use a multi meter and test continuity to determine where exactly it should connect to. Green is color for ground and often times green/yellow is a ground wire.  Take some photos.  But from your discription it sounds like your audio output has been disconnected either by accident or on purpose.

Thanks for your reply,

hopefully this photo works:

If that photo doesn't work then it's also hopefully -attached- to this post.

The green-yellow looks like it's the 3 phase ground - and I'm now hoping it's what gets attached to the chassis.

The black wire you can see coming out of the out-jack, on the right-hand-side if you were looking at the synth from the front.

o.k. yes the green/yellow wire is a ground connection. It should attach to chassis and is bolted down which is what the ring terminal connector is for. As for the black one not sure where it would connect but it does look like it was soldered, so maybe connecting to a PCB?  do you have a dmm? you can use the continuity  tester and a jack to test if that black wire connects to tip or ground, from there it will make it easier to determine where it hooks up too

I haven't got any gear - I'm as newbie as you can get when it comes to electronics.

It might be the angle in the previous photograph, but to me it looks like the end of the black wire hasn't seen solder - it's got the same connector on it as the green/yellow earth wire, and the wire's just the right length to get to the point where the green/yellow attaches to the chassis (which is why I was figuring it might also be a ground).

In this photo below we are looking from behind the signal out jack.

You can see a brown wire connecting the volume pot to the signal out, and the black wire coming out the other side.

There's a schematic of the MS10 at http://www.davidhylander.com/images/schematics/korg/KorgMS10-ServiceManual.pdf - I haven't quite the skill to read it properly though.

yes, in the original photo the angle of the black wire in the photo did not show me the ring terminal at the end. It looked like a tinned piece of wire.  The new one shows the ring terminal clear as a bell.  Looking at the schematic you can see where the out on the volume pot is going directly to the jack.  The other connection on the jack, the black wire would be the ground connection.  Like previously with the green/yellow wire, they should bolt down to the chassis somewhere.
