The Otari MTR 10 II that I'm repairing goes into Fast Forward when I press Stop after it has been in the Play mode. Sometimes it will eventually slow down into a Stop if I repeatedly press the Stop button about 2 to 4 times. Sometimes after about 8 to 15 seconds it will slowly roll into a Stop. It will also not Stop after I enter Fast Forward mode and then attempt to stop it by pressing Stop, but repeated Stop presses can get it to slowly come to a Stop. However, if I press Rewind it will Stop correctly when I press the Stop button every time. So again, when it is in the Play mode, pressing Stop will cause it to go into Fast Forward, but repeatedly pressing Stop, two to 4 times can get it to eventually stop after about 8 to 15 seconds. It also is difficult to get it to Stop after pressing Fast Forward. It does Stop correctly every time after being in Rewind mode however.
The service manual I was able to download from ManualsLib, does not include schematics or any section that describes how the transport logic works.
Does anyone have a manual that includes MTR 10 schematics, or descriptions of the transport logic? I could trouble shoot it if I had some better info on how it works.
I have checked the motion switches, and they are all working correctly. I have checked the reel logic pcb, and the cpu pcb for visible signs of failure but I see none, and all of the electrolytic caps on these two boards measure good. The indicator lights show all the power supplies working correctly and the cpu card light thinks everything is hunkey dory.
