Neutrik NJ3FP6C locking headphone jack

I am using a couple of Neutrik NJ3FP6C headphone connectors mainly because they use the same fixing holes as an XLR. However the locking mechanisms is incredibly stiff and I find it extremely difficult to remove a TRS jack from them. Have I done something wrong and/or is there a way to remove the locking feature? It's too late to use anything else because the panel is already made.

Those connectors can be difficult to release in my experience. If you want a simple/cheaper different solution buy the blanking panel/plug things that fit that size hole, drill it and install a regular jack socket.
