Hello!

Just wondering if anyone knows the name of the rear connection used on 80 series Neve modules. I've included a picture of the rear of one of Ams-Neve's re-issues of the 1073. Also does anyone know where I can get one of these connectors?

Thanks

The generic term is card edge connector.  Edac, Viking, Amphenol etc. all make or made them.  You need to know the number of contacts and the spacing between contacts.

Cheers guys,

After an extensive search I managed to find some info on Gearslutz:

Okay… I have decided to pass on buying these connectors in bulk.

There are a number of ways to get around using these for most applications and, really, the only reason you MUST buy the original WPI/Amphenol 133 series connectors is when you have to replace one in a frame.

So… here is some info for those of you who want or need to chase these connectors…

ECCO is a vendor that used to stock these and ship from stock - that is who I have been buying these from when the need arose. This time I called them and they had none at all… but a couple days later they called back and reported that they found what I needed from one of their sources.

The unit cost buying small quantities is pretty steep. I usually bought a lot of them to get a column break… so I was considering doing a bulk purchase and basically refilling a bin with what would probably last me for the rest of my life, but after I let a little time go by, sanity prevailed and I’m going to pass.

So, as public service… here is where you can get these, at least for now, and be prepared to pay a lot per connector… but if you have a busted one in an 80xx frame this may be worth it.

ELECTRONIC CONNECTOR CORP.

The person I talked to about this is Don…

the connector part numbers most used in Neve 80xx frames are

133.015.21 - 15 pin “male” with solder lugs

133.018.21 - 18 pin “male” with solder lugs

133.022.21 - 22 pin “male” with solder lugs

single unit cost ranges from $33.50ea to $38.91

if you buy 50 or more you can knock about 30% off that… the only one of these their source has more than 50 of is the 18 pin connector… which is what most of the channel amplifiers use.

also… there are other terminal configs…

I'll upload the data sheet into the Neve area in Technical Documents in case anyone else needs it.

I'm thinking what I will do is replace them with an alternative/cheaper version. Now to choose the perfect connector replacement!

Ok I think I've found a suitable replacement. This seems pretty much the same other than a few .001mm smaller and instead of brass this one is bronz... plus a lot cheaper!

Please don't all go rush and grab them all before I get a chance to though. ha!

Hmm scrap that last suggestion as that's just a card side mount. What are your thoughts on using a d sub connection? I was thinking maybe something like this? http://uk.farnell.com/norcomp/680m21w1103l401/connector-d-sub-comb-plug-db-21w1/dp/2421163
