Just as I had finished my first attempt at PCB design to facilitate putting illuminated switches on the Calrec EQ 2 and 4 pole switches
Look what I found in the new products section at Rapid...
http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk/rkmain.asp?PAGEID=80010&CTL_CAT_CODE=11376&STK_PROD_CODE=M70729&XPAGENO=2
Arggggg!!!
At least I now know how switches and relays work.....

Hey!
Thanx for the tip! UK is just one or two post days away from here! Mostly I get much better prices in the UK than I can get in Sweden, these days I'm buyin' transformers, knobs, VU's and probably Neutriks from the UK and most of the Farnell stuff is shipped from England to Sweden. (in one day :thumb: )

Try Mainline Surplus Electronics for bargains - me and a few of the other UK guys shop here
I have got Neutrik XLRs, Elna Capacitors, Sifam knobs real cheap from here (they still have Elnas in stock)

Thanks for the tip.
Need only to know if distance between them is 2.50mm or 2.54mm , is there a datasheet of those swithes?
Who is the maker of them (Alps?)

2.50 or 2.54? The actual standard measurement is probably 0.1". Looks like Altronics has them too in Australia: http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=S1451

Hi, your link doesn't work. Can you name the product so I can do a search at rapid? Thanks,

BK

Looks like Rapid re-numbered all their products since that was posted (18 months ago).

Try searching on these terms and numbers:

4 POLE PCB SWITCH WITH {color} LED
78-0548 78-0550 78-0552 78-0554
Call 01206751166 for availability

4 poles, a latch, and a lamp: under one buck. It's not Mil-spec gear, but we all have similar cheap plastic switches all around us, and they don't give much trouble. These do "need" a PCB to support them.

They are not gang-interlocked switches.

Altronics has a better picture. Not sure if it is the exact same switch. Those guys want 3 Aussie bucks each.

Neither outfit seems to stock these. Doubt they would order a crate to fill a few-switch order. If anybody is ordering enough to make it worthwhile for the distributor, consider getting a few extra and offering them here in the Market for cost plus a decent cover-charge.

Thanks... cheap but good. I'd hate to tell you what I paid for a fancy front panel switch years ago that plugs into a socket that is pc mountable.

They do stock them at Altronics. At nearly twice the UK price, I guess then can afford to? I bought a few of each red, yellow and green not long ago from my local distributor which saves freight charges as they just add them to whatever else is coming in that week.

Someone asked earlier in the thread who made them - mine only say "WB" on them. Maybe some factory in China?

the WB stands for "well buying" which is the name of the chinese company that makes those switches. there was some discussion about them in this thread:

decent switches, you see them in a lot of new gear these days.

rapid has a minimum order to US (50 or 100 sterling or dollars?) but they do stock a load of good parts...ive ordered twice; first time came through 'fed-ex customs critical' shipping, was kind of a pain ITA, had to describe to a guy that called me what each item did and what i needed it for.then i had to fill out some kind of form (and try to research some laws) saying i would not be building a bomb or harming the environment or making any products to sell with the goods.---i did order some potting epoxy which may have raised a flag.
my last order went very smooth, maybe 10 business days to get here: no chemicals in the order. It was shipped through an import/shipping co. i'd never heard of.
with both orders there was a substantial fee for shipping/customs approx $60 on a $200 order, so you really don't save as much as you think.

I sampled one of these C&K Elums from Digikey to try a while back.

http://www.ittcannon.com/media/pdf/catalogs/elum_overview.pdf

These would be great for switching relays, but the push-button isn't long enough to extend from the PCB through a thick panel like you find on a Par-Metal chassis, in spite of the statement about the switch having "extended travel in a very compact size".

p.s. The pdf link shows a custom cap extender, but I don't see them at DK.
