Hello there!
First of all sorry about my english, I'm from Porto Alegre-Brazil.
1st time in here but long time lover of electronics and electrics. =)

For too long I found something to stop me from giving into my lust of building something... But now I just can't fight it anymore =P
I HAVE to build something, but other than basic tools, a MM, basic theory and soldering abilities, I have nothing in the DIY background.
Since peeps here seems a lot more friendly than other places I decided to register and shoot the daring question...

What should I build?

Kk, let me give a small background 'bout me and my small studio (http://audiofarmrs.blogspot.com). I'm a small musical producer and I own a small studio, nothing too fancy. I've been working in the music business for over 7 years and there's a quite some stuff I love but I'll prolly won't be able to put my hands on in the near future unless I build them. And so here I am!
What would that be? Well, I love the Neve sound, I love Pultecs, Fairchilds, 160VUs, SSL summing, would love being able to go out the box into a good sounding summing box, bla bla bla, all the good stuff as everyone else does, but I have no clue how and where to start the journey of finally haveing some of the pieces of the list. I guess what I'm trying to say is... HELP!

Anyways, thanks in advance, best regards and sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place!

most people here will tell you to start with an easy build like the gssl buss compressor cause there is a lot information here.

I've got one and I am pretty happy with it...

you can also try some mic pre.
Owel from Fivefish have some nice kit easy to build

also you can try Ptownkid mic pre kit like the green (pretty clean) or the fet boy (more colored)

if you like something more colored, try the access api312 from 3nity

you can buy transformers for this project @ Jeff store.
www.classicapi.com

you can forget the Fairchild for a first build. expensive and not easy.
the Pultec is tube based so it's involve some skills cause high curent can kill you if you don't know what you're doing!!!

cheers!
Jr.
