I have a dead memory battery in a Tascam Midiizer MTS-1000, SMPTE / MTC / Tape Multi Syncronizer controller, it's a NiCd (Nicad) Sanyo Cadnica N-SB3 3.6V axial AA size. I troubleshooted with a working machine & found out that certain functions on the backup battery PCB don't work by swaping the PCB's around ::)

I can't get any of these in Europe due to them being banned by the EU, so I was wondering what I could use for a replacement? I've not seen a schematic for the Midiizer so I'm not sure if certain types of batteries might be dangerous to use in this circuit?

Was considering a 3.6V Lithium Thionyl Chloride battery which is the same size with axial pins in it's place http://www.tadiranbatteries.de/eng/products/LTC-Batteries/product2.asp?ID=28.

Or some lithium primary cell of some description, if available in the right form factor?
