doing some research around that new oktava bottle mic, and found this on www.oktava.net

"The 6C315-P tube inside the mic teamed with a specially designed power block gives enough third harmonic distortion to brighten and add warmth to almost any sound source, and the gold sputtered 33mm cardioid capsule adds that extra presence so enamoured of vocalists"

perhaps the missed out the word subtle, or it is a bad translation?

cheers gus,

i saw the mkl 5000 last night, an impressive looking bottle mic, got a kinda funny sos review as i recall. anyone used it?

I justed googled MKL5000. I can't tell if it uses the same type of crappy 219/319 capsule but with both sides active. From the writeup it sounds like the 2500 CF circuit with added patterns.

in the review i read it was descibed as really colured, and good for the rock vocal thing. bit pricey in the UK at £699 at the moment, but i'm sure it'll go down.

hey zeb,

i was anticipating it would drop quite alot. plus i have promissed myself not to start any more projects till i've finnished at least half of whats on my workbench at the moment

have you got all those old tube mics working yet?

Hi Toby,
Got one running nicely on a new power supply. It sounds very very good actually. I used it as a 'room' mic recording a band yesterday, and you can hear absolutely everything going on.

The new oktavas undoubtedly will come way down in price.
