Orban 412A compressor meter

Hi all.
I have an Orban 412A compressor that I want to use for personal use.
The gain reduction meter went open circuit many years ago.
I was wanting to know if I replace with an outboard meter would I
use a VU meter, regular voltage meter, or current meter. I have attached
the meter drive circuit in this post.

I wrote to Orban and they still had stock of the meters. Replaced mine a few years ago.

Still would love to know what kind on gain reduction meter is use here in case Orban no longer stocks it.
