I've tried the Neutrik software and have not had good luck with it. I've tried a couple other programs and they just haven't worked for me. The spacing never seems to work out correctly.
I use Excel. It takes a lot of fiddling to get the cell height/width just right; but once you get it, you save it as a blank template and you can turn out professional-looking "dez strips" (as I call them) with ease.

Best labels I made were with concept draw for mac. I could definately see how excel would work. How about trying studio suite. Free demo and although the patchbays print out with demo in the label, one could easly scan in the print out and remove the demo part and replace with any label as needed. Will try it and let you know if it works well.
would you guys rather i hosted it and you can down load whenever you want?
or should i email it?
also here is exactly what i have:
my template was given to me by a guy who uses the 2ru bays with "mono" spacing of the patch plugs.
i sized it down for the 1ru labels but left the spacing the same. i have stereo spaced patch plugs.
when you make the label for a stereo spaced bay, you have to line up point 1 and 24 as best you can (it's actually really close) and everything in between will be fine.
i have been using standard printer paper. when the label prints i use a fresh razor blade and a straight edge to cut them.
works great!!
i might still have the 2ru template as well....i won't know till i get home and look on my machine there.
