-Lin/log scale pin and external input for applications like
compressor gain reduction metering
-Highlighted segments at -30, -20, -10, -2, 0, 2, 10, 20 dB added
-Highlighted segments added to linear scale as well
-Power supply can be hooked up to any unit using 2x(15...24)V 1A
power transformer.

Normally, microcontroller comes pre-programmed for
highlighted segments as shown on pictures.
However, I have two different versions
which can be used for 0dbFS and tube compressor's GR metering.
Please ask here.


For more displays, you just need stabilized 245V power supply.
Each display runs on approx. 20 mA 245V, 30 mA +/-15V.

If some people interested to build crazy 16x or even more meters
in-addition to their consoles....

Hello

Just finished building this awesome meter. Thanks Igor for such a cool project. I'm having a bit of a problem that I'm hoping someone could shed some light on for me.

The meter works for a few minutes, and then it just shuts off. When this happens the high voltage rail drops to around 65v or so. If the power supply has no load on it the high voltage out will stay at 245v where I have it set.

I've checked for any shorts or misplaced components. Can't see anything out of sorts. I'm very much still a newbie,  any help is most appreciated.

Hi Jon, please check if high voltage diode BYV95 is not changed with 1N4004.
Is the PS high voltage with load 245V as well?
What trafo are you using?
What is the voltage on C2 and C5?
Maybe, 7815 before HV converter getting too hot and enters in thermal shutdown?
Check the voltage after 7815 (on C7) when it shuts down.
Heatsink will help.

I added heatsinks and that seemed to fix the problem. I guess it was a thermal issue. I had it on for about 2 hrs without it shuting off.

Yes, both peak/average detectors are on-board, you can switch between them
with external switch or install jumpers on board. See schem. as well for details.

12201 are really hard to  find ...http://www.die-wuestens.de  is now Sold out for this product .

-Anyone know where to find 12201 because every reseller give me price about 350 and 400 $ !!  :eek:
 
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I think the cheapest price I found for the pbg12201 was 293 US$. Anyone found a cheaper price anywhere? I'm looking for one for one of Igor's CRM kits. Thanks!

I'm getting a bit confused. I'm getting some mixed messages... the schamatic says 18v... and 15v... and there is another ac input..

So what do i actually need? Just a 15v hooked up to the PS? or an 18 and 240v mains?
 
Wait. Please specify your question.
Power supply transformer: 2x(15-22V) AC 25VA min.
The voltages on plasma board are  +/-15V (analog supply),
+5V (local stabilizer on plasma PCB for microcontroller, it takes power from 15V analog),
and  +245V for plasma display.
 
Wait, i was looking at the schematic funny. The psu puts out 245v yes? That was my confusion (being that europe and austraian mains beeing 230/240v.)

So there is no real difference between using a 15v transformer to a 25v one.
 
The PSU puts out +/-15V and +245 V DC.
245V DC voltage used to fire up the plasma.
Power supply trafo is: (your country AC mains voltage) -> (2x(15...22V) AC), 25 VA min.
I used 230-> (2x18V, 0.7A) rated trafos. Israeli people used to think we're the part of Europe,
(ahem....:) and here mains voltage is 230V, 50Hz, same as in Europe.
Hope now all is clear...anyway, ask in case of whatever.
