so i need a solid way to test this transformer, as my unit (after being rebuilt) seems to work quite well except in balanced modes - i have the original input transformer (gold pins - pre-peerless pre-utc - dunno who makes it) and original output trannies. i love this pre but this has been a big bummer since i got it rebuilt. can i test dcresistance or will it ruin the transformer? what should i do if primary or secondary is open?
thanks!

you can test DC resistance. it won't hurt your transformer, as long as you have a modern VOM.

if there is a short CJ will fix it for free!!!

do you have the pinout?
you could look at how the socket is wired to determine in vs out pins.
then just ohm it with a standard DMM.
I measured the current and voltage coming out of a lot of diff meters and found only the Simpson analog and Fluke bench meters to be of conceaern, though unproven.
send it here!

tested the tranny and it was fine, found some heater problems in the first stage of the preamp - worst interconnect system ever. usually i replace it, but i was lazy... just goes to show!
thanks
