I am in need of the pin out for a Pro Tools TDM (as in Mix Card to 888) cable. As I understand it, it is 16 channels of AES, & possibly clock. I want to hook it up directly to AES converters.....anyone in the know???

Thanks!

If you mean you want to bypass the 888 and go directly to the card, I'm afraid you're out of luck. Firstly, I don't believe that it's an AES signal carried on that cable. Second, protools will not start up unless it sees a supported interface attached to the card. Therefore, in order to use an alternate converter you must still go through the 888(or an authorized alternate such as the apogee AD8000 with DIGI card).

Sorry to burst the bubble for you.

I do believe that now pro tools can be used also with m-audio. From what i heard they bought m-audio out and are going to intergrate m-audio's stuff with pro tools.

Not TDM, I don't think. LE perhaps.

The digital connectors on HD interfaces like the 192 are TDIF pinout.

As the system allready has Digidesign interfaces on it, boot up is no problem. I have used the Euphonics converters on TDM systems, and they seem to be AES I/O direct from the TDM card. The "rumor" is that 888's are really only converters, and the AES I/O on them pretty much goes straight through to the TDM cable, with some clock routing. I knoe Digi released all this info to 3rd party developers, I am hoping it may have sifted down to someone here(?).
By the way, has anyone looked inside an HD I/O box? It's got to be the most expensive rack box & power supply ever made!

I've been there when we first unpacaged our system. those units are pathetic when it comes to space usage... :?

The reason the euphonix and other converters work with the TDM systems is they licenced a the right to use their boxes with DIGI all they had to do was design a card around the digi spec. You are correct in saying the 888's are only conveters. You are also spot on with the HD being the most expensive I/o box ever made. I am wondering of the possibilties of moding the A/D and D/A cards myself. I would sugggest taking to the guys @ apogee converters.
Originally the HD stuff was not going to be licenced but they figured the connection out and told DIGI go ahead a sue is we are going to put it out anyway.
