I've got an old Prophet 2002 sampler with a very noisy transformer (mechanically). According to the schematics (attached) it's got dual secondaries, 16VCT and 32VCT. With no load present I've measured these values as well. Now I wonder if there's a way to use a simple run-of-the-mill torroidial to replace it. Any chance?

One guy in a forum supposedly replaced it with a 12 - 0 - 12 trafo, but I can't wrap my head around how this would work.

Dunno of any standard different voltages dual center tapped transformer with these current ratings. Maybe ask Müller-Rondo for a custom wound one or get a 2nd mains transformer, assuming only one secondary winding (probably the 16VAC ct) causes your mechanical hum.

Won't work without some parts changes (FI voltage rating of C210/C211) and seriously increased heat sinking (+active venting) at the 7805s. For the 5VDC part, the 2.5A rated center tapped 16VAC transformer winding can deliver up to 1.92A DC with full wave center tap rectifier config (form factor K=1.3), shared by both 7805 Vregs. Raw DC peak voltage in front of these Vregs is about 10.6V. 5.6V differential across these Vregs times current load already will make it warm. With a 24VAC center tapped transformer in front, V-differential goes up to above 11V.
 
Yes, thought so. Thanks alot! I'll probably get two transformers, since there is plenty of room. Some people also suggested an SMPS, but I fear this might affect performance.
