Hey folks,
I have a Yamaha PM2000 desk that I want to change the high and low mids to all inductor based eq similar to what Joe offers here at JLM http://www.jlmaudio.com/JLM%20PM2000%20EQ%20mod%20kit.htm

I'm going to do enough channels that I'm probably going to figure out a way to rig this up myself to lower costs. My question is, how much do you guys think having shielded inductors will matter in this application? If I'm doing 22 channels, (that's the goal) costs are significantly lower if I go unshielded.

We're talking Fastron/Toko inductors, unless someone has a recommendation for something cheaper at a similar size.

What would you do?

I think the only way to know is to try in the actual circuit in the actual environment.

I've used the toko inductors with no problems at all in gpultec circuits.

But I've definately used other inductors in other circuits with major problems.
Only sorted by shielding or replacement.

I would buy a set and install and check carefullly in intended environment.
Proximity to noise sources can often be a problem and only seen when you install it in it's final destination.

good luck with it all

cheers

Simpler than actually soldering the inductor into place would be to wire it to a mic cable (between pin 2-3). Connect the cable to a ~20 dB preamp, move the inductor around in the room and see if you can pick up enough hum to bother you.
