Front panel marking at the moment. What is the gain scale of Keiths 9k mic pre?

It is about 70db correct? So do you scale it from negative to positive?? If so what figures?

I have seen a couple of the V*H*D products with scales of -18 to +72 that doesnt seem right..

Maybe i should just use dots and be done with it...

It depends what you use for a gain control... I used a 15 step switch with 12dB to 72dB in 4 dB steps.

The SSL9k is capable of 10dB minimum to 72dB maximum. I you use a rev log pot thats your min and max, halfway should be 41dB, fill in the gaps in between... if you have 300 degrees of rotation on your pot and 60dBs of gain range thats 5 degrees per dB. Or 10 steps- 6dB for every 30 degrees rotation.

Hey thanks Mike.

Yeah - I should clarify that I dont want to label each position around the rev log pots that I plan to use. Just a start and finish point!
