Really dumb API 550 problem

Can anybody help me here? I bought a pair of 550's recently - one of them was missing the LPF switch cap, but the guy included another cap. I can't fit the thing on - the hole in the button cap is much smaller than the end of the shaft. So I ordered 3 directly from API and it's the same deal - they have a square hole and the switch shaft has a larger locking shape of some sort. Does anyone know if API changed the switch type between the 550 and the 550A? Anyone have a switch cap for a 550?

Grab one of your Mrs' nail files and run it over each flat face of the the switch top until small enough to slip the new cover on.
