Hi Guys,

I can get a good deal on a batch of old Jensen transformers... but I would need to remove the mounting channel frame for my purpose. Is it risky? What happen if I scratch the steel lamination?

Thanks

The mounting frames usually slip on and off so generally fine.  Maybe ask the seller to confirm they are easily removable since they are older, nothing is stuck,  etc.

I’ve used old Jensen JE-123’s from the 70s - 80s in 5 or 6 different multi-channel builds and never had a single problem removing the channel frame. Even on the ones with rusty lams.  May have scratched a lam or two, but I never noticed. It’ll be fine.

Scratch does NO harm.

Bending one lamination is not significant.

Bending all the lams may reduce inductance.

Scratching  across the lam edges with sandpaper or wire brush may increase core loss.
