Hi,

I snipped the connection end off the wire of a TD-20 (which had a 3 prong going to a tape recorder like end) and wired it to a Neutrik XLR instead.  I got no sound out of the mic.

I opened the mic body up to see that the capsule had 2 metal lines coming out of it.  One being soldered to the cable at ground and the other being soldered to both the hot and cold connection.  Just making sure this is how the mic is supposed to be wired?  There is no sound at all -- I tried de-soldering and re-soldering the connections.  Maybe the capsule is just dead?

Thanks!
Matt

that is an unbalanced mic for hi-z input with a 2 conductor cord from what I've seen--sounds like a tin of mints.

Ah yes -- I must be the stupidest member on this forum.  I wired it up to an unbalanced 1/4" plug and it worked.  It does sound pretty lo-fi.  No low end at all!  Even when boosting the lows hard on an eq, there is just nothing there.  However -- it does have a sound and a vibe.  It reminds me a bit of the sounds on a Faust recording or CAN.  Lo-fi, but definitely has a vibe over my other lo-fi mics :)
