I am currently working on a Focusrite ISA430. Unfortunatly, the backup battery has leaked over the PCB. The battery is still holding an okay charge,. but needs to be replaced. It is B1 on the first page of the schematic.

The thing is....Im worried about losing the memory contents that the battery is backing up. Is there a tried and true method for replacing these batteries without dumping the contents of the chips they are backing up and reprogramming them?

Thanks!

The link doesn't work for me....

I'm guessing the unit can't be powered on while it's changed???

I saw a video where one guy replaced some Game Boy or something's coin by rigging up a temporary battery soldered to some pads on the back of the pcb where the old battery needing replacement was going ...... swapped it out, then removed the temp battery.......

Interesting problem.... Hope you get it sorted!

Fixed the link...thats what I get for posting when exhausted. :)

I don't really have access to the back of the pcb and definitely don't want to desolder it while it's on. My soldering iron is grounded. On a battery powered device...i would be less concerned. :)

Unplug the unit from everything while you solder the temporary battery. Easy!
