WPIX Press Release said:
THE YULE LOG CELEBRATES 42 YEARS

PIX 11 TO AIR THE YULE LOG ON DECEMBER 25 FROM 9AM TO 1PM

NEW YORK, December 3, 2008 - It wouldn't be a holiday in New York without The WPIX Yule Log! The Yule Log, the famous film loop of a burning log in a hearth, has mesmerized viewers since it debuted on PIX in 1966. To celebrate the Log's 42nd anniversary, PIX 11 will air The Yule Log from 9am-1pm on December 25th, expanding the coverage to 4-hours. At 1pm, immediately following The Yule Log, PIX will air the beloved holiday classic, March of the Wooden Soldiers. [Emphasis mine. --Dave]

In recent years, The Yule Log has been digitally re-mastered and fully restored. In 2001, while searching the company's archives, the original 35mm Yule Log film was found where it was misfiled in a "Honeymooners" film can titled "A Dog's Life." At that time, the original film was color corrected and cleaned of scratches.  In 2003, the Log was up-converted to High Definition (PIX now airs a simultaneous HDTV Yule Log on WPIX-DT) and in 2005 PIX made The Yule Log available to viewers as a downloadable podcast.

In 2006 to celebrate the Log's 40th anniversary, Lawrence F. "Chip" Arcuri and Joe Malzone, the creator of theyulelog.com, restored the audio of The Yule Log for PIX, a process that required the digital remastering of a number of songs to be pulled from their original vinyl records, since many of the songs in The Yule Log have never been released on CD (In fact, out of 70 selections on the program, 34 are currently out-of-print, and of that 34, 12 have never been in print on CD!)

With the Log now digitally re-mastered and fully restored, The Yule Log continues to serve as a holiday card to PIX viewers.

The Yule Log can be seen on PIX and PIX-DT on Thursday, December 25th from 9 am-1pm ET (with closed captioning available.) The Log will be offered as wallpaper, a downloadable podcast, and via flash video at www.wpix.com <http://www.wpix.com/>  where PIX will host a Yule Log comment board.

In addition, the WPIX Yule Log will be airing on the following Tribune Broadcasting Stations:

KTLA/LA 5-8a, WGN/Chicago (local) 1:30-6:30a, WPHL/Philly 9a-noon, KDAF/Dallas 8-11a (airing their own version of the Yule Log), WDCW/DC 8-10a, KCPQ/Seattle 5-9a, WSFL/Miami 7-10a, KWGN/Denver 5-9a, KTXL/Sacramento 4:30-9a, KPLR/St. Louis 8- noon, KRCW/Portland 5-10a, WXIN/Indianapolis 5-9a, WTTV/Indianapolis 5-8:30a, WTIC/Hartford 8-10a, WXMI/Grand Rapids 5-7a, WPMT/Harrisburg  5-10a, and WGNO/New Orleans 5-7a. (Times listed are for each city's respective time zone)

I got a version on dvd but every time I watch it I have unexplained seizures for some reason?  :p

The real WPIX yule log was never released on DVD (or VHS, for that matter), but some "copycats" exist.

I admit it's kind of a silly thing, but it has real sentimental value to many who grew up around here. They used to broadcast it on Christmas Eve night, which was even better, IMO.

Is there a link to the podcast? My girl would get a kick out that one (portable fireplace  ;D)

Can't find it. Yeah mine is a copycat. Works great in an apartment though. Lol

Boy...When I saw the title "Return of The Log" and New York, I instantly thought of the living legend Les Paul and his first solid electric guitar.

I thought there was a reissue coming!  :D
