A great man. One of the last of his generation. I was lucky enough to meet him twice. Sadly missed.

Prince Philip is said to have coined the word “dontopedalogy” when speaking to the British General Dental Council in 1960. He described it as the “science of opening your mouth and putting your foot in it, which I’ve practised for many years”. ;D

If your not offending someone , your probably not saying anything of much consequence .

Ok , he made his fair share of gaffes over the years but that quote shows a more self deprecating side to the man himself. He did also , despite his uncle Louis Mountbatten being blown up by the IRA play his part in the peace process as well as accompanying the Queen on her visit to the south of Ireland a few years back .
