No not that kind with the twigs and seeds.
I'm sure all here have learned one way or another that DC on control potentiometers with the audio will eventually destroy the pot. But, Why? :?
If one has an audio signal in the tens of volts of both polarities across the pot without any ill effects. How can a few millivolts of DC cause damage?
I know from object lessons in consoles that the small DC does in fact trash the pots. But I do not understand the mechanism of the damage. Is it generally enough to block just the high side of the fader, or is it necessary to also block the wiper? I suppose the answer is somewhere in the "it depends" neighborhood.
Anyone with a lucid explanation??? Obviously, lucid is a relative term here!
Peace - Out
