keep plugging away and don't listen to us Igor ... fantastic efforts that some of these people put it. Over the past couple of years I've had the privilege of seeing some of the projects people are working on. Unfortunately some people are shy and keep quiet about them.

I think you should use a quality connector instead of the side of the PCB. A right angled IEC double rowed type of thing.

Fortunately, I have 30x 36 goldpin pcb connectors, used in HP equipment, all NOS from good source...
_never_ heard they making the problems!
PCB goldplating is not a big deal: $6-8 for "goldfingers" on PCB or
gold electroplating kits are cheap enough...
