A few years ago on the old-forum-that-shall-not-be-named, someone posted a mod for the Alesis 3630. He had you clip two wires to remove gate detection from the circuit and improve the sound. I might be writing an article about this for Tape Op magazine, and I would like to credit the original author. Does anyone remember the original poster and/or have his contact info? Thanks, -jl

If you are talking about the Group DIY - DIY section at RO then it was Peter Purpose.

The E-mag may be gone now so I could re-post it at the new place if people think it is worth it or just email it to you.
whatever ??

edit:-
hang on
what's this ??

looks different but could be it.

No, this is a super-simple mod. You cut two jumpers, which disconnects the gate detection circuit and the sound opens up. I did it to my unit, so I was able to write about how it is done, but I wanted to credit the original designer.

I credited him as "anonymous Swedish guy." :green:

In the mean time, could you share this mod with those of us who haven't seen it?? Don't want to rob Tape Op of the scoop necessarily, but if it's that simple, I'd love to have a go at it.

Thanks so much!!

Hi,

I guess I'm the guy you're looking for.

The recipe is simple. Remove the two jumpers shown and the gate circuit will be gone.

The original article with the scope shots got lost at the other site.
