As I'm getting deeper into electronics I need a signal generator - square & sine wave.

There are a lot to choose from even on ebay & this one at AES:

http://www.tubesandmore.com/new/scr...evclients/cemirror/ELEVATOR.FXP?item=S-MAFGEN

is this one OK or can I do better for the price ($150). I'm pretty sure the distortion has to be low but how low. I'm really in the dark on this one. :?

Are there any brands I should look out for GOOD OR BAD???

Thanks,
Kevin

Sawtooth is really cool, also.

Clipping points are easily located, off with their heads.
Cone heads, that is.

Wavetek over on this bench.
20 years, and rollin.

It depends on what you need it for.

I got by for years with an old EICO tube Signal generator (for general audio, guitar amp repair/bias work).

I've now got a BK 3011B that has also served me well for years. I can use it's TTL out as a varispeed wordclock gen.

Well I could use one for some general crap... but would also like something good/clean enough to check my mic pres & transformers with a square wave.

Does the one I linked to look OK?

I don't need one that can fly a rocket ship but would like somethiing that would last me for a while that I could grow into... I'm still learning.

Thanks,
Kevin

You cannot go wrong with this $25 DIY generator kit:

Or just buy the IC and make the rest yourself. I have made both +/- 9V battery portable and +/- 18V balanced out bench versions of it in the past, and it is a good utilitarian generator.

On my service tools kit I use the NTI Minirator MR1 and love it.

Sinus, square, frequency swep 20-20k, white noise, pink noise and polarity test.

There is also the Virtual Minirator for free download, for your Mac or PC !

I cannot see a better offer.

Hi kev, I just started with electronics and chose to build this kit so I could learn to solder. I haven't gotten my transformer for it yet, so I'm not sure if it's any good, but thought I would post it anyways.

there's a kit form at the bottom of that page.

Good luck with your search!

Hey that one looks pretty cool. The only thing I miss is a FREQUENCY DIAL but for $40 I might deal with it.

Thanks every body for your advise :thumb:
