Simple variable output attenuation help please.

Ok, so I'm using a 1:1, centre tapped (+48v going into the
centre tap via a resistor ) for a simple mic input, and the output
is going unbalanced (20k secondary ) to a domestic camcorder
with a mini-jack connector.
Can I just put a VR between ground and the output or will
this cause problems?
Needs to be really simple if poss.

Why not just use a pot--wired as a pot, not as a variable resistor?

Ha Ha!!

I meant 'pot'.
Get confused with generic names and sometimes
differences between American and English names for
things - Valves or Toobs etc.
So, will this work?
