I have several bipolar psu's laying around with a +48v but need a single supply +24V, 0V, 48v psu for a Helios/Neve type circuit. Can I just tap the +24v and +48v and ignore the -24v?
Is there strain?
I'm sure this has been asked before (probably by me) but Google didn't give me a definitive answer and I want to understand this.
I understand why we want bipolar ((or dual rail) psu's for op amps.
I understand how to create dual rail from single supply. I don't know if using one rail on a bipolar supply would damage anything in the end.
Thank you in advance.

Yes, it's fine. There will be no strain. But the power of each rail stays the same. If the transformer winding and other parts are a amply derated, you probably could pull a little more power out of it.
