Hi

time ago
The old weller (probably little tired..)
died.... ( r.i.p.)

and repair cost little more than half the price of a new ...

searching on web , found a chinese soldering station
the model showed in the image attached
(surely many of you know / use)

Actually also sold under different brand names and colors...( called :  " Dur-atool " )
but always made in china (..unfortunately..  :'( )
(.. little "trick"  (as many others....) to change company name and brand products ,
for " non-compliance"  the laws on product warranty ? )

given the urgency to finish what we started with the old weller,
I purchased from a web store, and on the advice of the seller I also took a full iron, and some replacement tips
choose an offer that includes a full iron, and some replacement tips ,

Overall it worked pretty well so far...

Unfortunately today that soldering station stop to work ....

the base turns on normally ,
put the temperature at the maximum
but the tip remain cold

replaced the iron with a spare (taken together with the station)

but nothing changes ,
tip cold !

any help is welcome ,

thanks in advance

R.

Sorry I can't offer any help with the station, just thought it was funny that we both ended up with Chinese stuff thanks to Weller. I put a few hundred in a Weller rework station which is now a paperweight since they no longer do tips for it. My Chinese version is a CSI, but it also goes by "Aoyue" and a few other names. FWIW, the main dealers didn't even have access to any repair info or schematics when I had a question about mine. I think I found one guy who helped me directly on it.

Hope you can get that back up again,

George

Well if its a Weller TCP then all spares are still available ....
Element, magnastat, and tips just bought some for mine ?

R2 - check the station's internal powersupply and the connectors.

And possibly the power transistor (or triac) that switches power to the iron.

I don't know the connector type, but I had some problems with my Ersa soldering station.
They use a 5 pole DIN connector and the connector came loose from the PCB tracks.
So i needed an other soldering iron to fix my soldering iron...
I replaced the standard DIN connected with a DIN connector with a threaded ring, so I can secure the cable to the soldering station.
This prevents any force on the PCB tracks. The new connector in the base station is mounted on the front and is connected with a couple of wires to the PCB.

No this is one of those combo solder/desolder things (Weller Ungar 4624). I never really cared for the solder part so I'm not sure if I can still get those, but the desoldering tips are now gone.

-Thanks!

Didn't mean to derail R2's thread.  :-[

Many Thanks Guys !

later i try to disassemble the "station"

and post some news and image too ,

if possible to repair it,
may also be helpful for somebody else ...

peace

...... ops  ::)

5 screws to remove but no right screwdriver  in my set ....
(see images , click on it for enlarge )

what will be the right name for that tool/screwdriver?  ???

R.

ps:
Also discovered that the manufacturer of the soldering station no longer exists ,
but i see soldering stations for sale everywhere
with same base , iron , and tec-specs , with minor differences....
Asked to an online seller about ,
he said me that :
In china many "manufacturer" start with a brand and produce for 2-3 years
then close and reopen under a different brand in a matter of a few days,
so avoid all the problems related to product liability or poorly constructed,
and do not respond to the obligations of product warranties .

they are emeritus motherf.......s !

Hi,

sometimes you have to make a tool to fix a tool.

Grind or file a groove in the middle of a cheap (possibly chinese!) screwdriver.

take care

I would recommend that you invest $ 10,-- in such a bit-set which you should be able to buy "around the next corner" (supermarket, furniture store, etc).

You can see the needed bits at the left-back.

I also bought this type of solder station to replace my aged and expensive to repair weller setup.
I have a bad habit of desoldering and pushing the component lead out of the pcb - these irons DO NOT like this practice (of levering component leads out - something the wellers didn't mind) and i have killed a couple of elements like this.
Good thing is the elements can be bought for a few pounds/dollars and i have repaired successfully - now all i need to break is my bad desoldering habit!
