Got in touch with the studio owner, designer, engineer and manufacturer of Sound Techniques
A studio based in Chelsea - big in the sixties..
Think early Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Incredible String Band, John Martyn
Other desks he made were used by Hendrix, Animals, the Doors
Pictures of the desk here...
http://www.soundtechniques.co.uk/history.htm

The company is not in the audio business but makes software for legal firms, tv production - all sorts of things...
Here is a email back from him, Geoff Frost..

Simon,

This could be interesting. Let me know more about your site.

Many many thanks for replying
Nice pictures!!
I am part of a Electronics DIY group on the web
If you ever have time - any chance of asking you questions or hassling you for schematics?
If we have time we might clone one of your old units....(if that's okay!)

Many many thanks

Just got a email from Geoff

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the email, and in particular the news about a Sound Techniques
desk. This would appear to be the second desk to have surfaced in the last
few months! I believe that the 'A' range (the big ones) are now worth a lot
of money.

I will try and respond to the response for assistance when I have a moment.

BTW I'm getting back with John Wood.

Keep it up!

Geoff

Nice guy!!!! emailed back within 30minutes!!
I keep trying to get him to turn up here - maybe one day.

Wow! this is interesting stuff, i was always given to believe that Nick Drake was recorded at Basing Street(now Sarm West). Where I think Helioses ruled the roost . . . I stand corrected, perhaps. . . Whatever/Wherever it was it was awesome - especially in the hands of the wonderful Mr Boyd! I have recently been working with someone who frequently mentioned a John Wood - perhaps i can find out some more . . . I had only heard passing reference to Sound Techniques before now!

man, if we could get more information about those desks Id fall over, two of my all time favorite records were done on a sound techniques desk. De lane lea had one in the very early 70's.

Yeah - it was Sound Techniques with John Wood, Engineering and Joe Boyd, Producing
Great guitar technique and what a recorded sound...
My acoustic guitar technique is heavily influenced by Mr Drake....

No - haven't seen them - but if you would be so kind as to send them to Peter (a couple of posts above this) we would be very very grateful
I would just act as the middle man anyway

Nice to see you here!!
