Hey Guys,

I'm getting to the stage where I am putting together ideas for racking up my Greens (almost done, still troubleshooting the Phantom issue...).
I am wanting to get a nice power indicator LED/pilot light for the rack, something similar to the the one below on the Vintech.

It doesn't have to be that one, just something similar. I have access to the Farnell and RS range of components,
anyone used something similar from either of them? Part no etc?

Or any other places I could try that take Inet orders and can ship worldwide?

Thanks

Matt

The one in the Vintech appears to be similar to or the same as the ones found in Fender amps. Those have an incandescent bulb, and the jewels can be had in numerous colors. Smart Parts probably has those, along with just about any other source for amp parts.

They're a pretty common item, so it shouldn't be too hard to round one up.

BTW, the lamp holders and jewels are usually sold separately.

Cheers,

Yes,

Those look just like the lamps I put in all my guitar amp builds. I run them from the 6volt heater taps from the power transformers.

I get them from www.tubesandmore.com

You have to drill something like an 11/16th inch hole for the lamp holder unit, and you can get quite a variety of colors for jewel lens.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your help. I had noticed they looked a lot like the ones on the Fender amps. I did however not know they were actual lamps not LED's. Are they all 6V or could you power it off the +15 rail of a PSU? Do you think it would be easy enough to integrate into a Pro Audio design or best left out of my plans for the rack?

Thanks

Matt

You can put any voltage bulb you want in this socket, it will easily handle 120V ac. However, if you want to run it off a 15V supply, I would look for a white LED with a bayonet base to fit this socket (assuming you really want this type of socket) The bulbs I have been able to find Jump from 14V to 28V, with nothing in between suitable for a 15V supply.

Thanks.

I wonder if it would take 220V? I think it should? I'll try and look and see if I can see a datasheet, if it does it makes sense to run it straight off the mains, it prob would be better than sucking juice from the regulated DC, assuming the lamp will run on AC.

Cheers

Matt

Antique Electronics Supply sells the fender jewel light that you see on fender amps. This is similar..

Hey Guys,

Thanks all so much for your help. I think I may have found my solution!

The description says this:

Red Neon Indicator: Red. 220/240Vac. All plastic. Requires 10mm mounting hole in panel. Metal fixing nut. Integral series resistor. Dims: 36 x 13mm (dia).

It looks like the neon bulb and jewel are one unit and designed to be used with 220V!!!! I struck gold, hah hah.

I'll be giving them a call tomorrow and checking if they have stock!

Thanks again

Matt

Doug,

Thanks for that info. Does it matter where the Neon is in the circuit? So placing it into the circuit at the mains 220V inlet would be bad, does the 'noise' then travel from the inlet to the transformer and then into the audio circuit? This is obviouslly something I don't want to do! Any help or info would be usefull.

Thanks

Matt
