Sphere/Api 10 channel Sidecar .. New 900 EQs... New AUX Penthouse

Hi Guys

I finally decided what to do with my Sphere Pieces/parts !

I have decided to attempt to build a 10 channel Side Car
using my parts along with some goodies from ClassicAPI.
(What would we do without Jeff ?? )

The plan at this point is to build 10-M1200 pres to fill my 22224 backplane.

and use Jeff's Double Bay Bundle for EQs and Comps.

For bus assignments I got a box of these guys

They are latching with Lit LED centers. I will use these
to control the bus assignment relays.

I got a box of old used AL39s with Buffer boards for metering.

At this point I realized I needed a lot more SPA-62 DOAs

So I built some nice working proto clones.
Its nice that all the transistors are still being made
and are very available.

These are ver2. The Production DOA Pcbs will Ver3. I need to re-space
a few parts, increase the size of the fingers and Gold plate them.

I will soon add all my reversed Schematics to a new Sphere Thread
in our new Group DIY "Technical Documents (Beta)"

Lots to do Lots to do.. Now to find Time :

As the build progresses over the next year or so I'll update this thread.

What an exciting project!! A Sphere Eclipse A stuffed with 900 series eqs is my dream console. When is someone going to do a DIY version of the 900 eq??!! I think the the schematics for the SPA-62 is/was in the gmail account. If you haven't got it, I can email it to you - send me a pm. Keep us updated.

Ben.. There are at least 3 SPA-62 versions that I have come accross
including the gmail account one.  I own 2 of them (see the picture above of
the real ones} and the gmail one is the third.
I designed my PCB to be able to stuff any of them except for the 313 lamps.
I will include all 3 when I do my Sphere doc dump
in our new Group DIY "Technical Documents (Beta)"
Thanks to peterc I got a good schmo of the 900 EQ.. Lots of
Kustom inductors.  A remake would be a BIG EXPENSIVE Clone Job :'( :'(

Neils.. These switch assemblys are from a old late Auditronics 900
parts desk as are the AL39s.  (This parts desk has NO frame or PSU
and No inductor based EQs) :'(

The Latest update

Here is a 22224 Mic pre backplane with 2 Real M1200B Mic Pre cards.
I only own 2 real cards so I have been working on this M1200B pcb.

I will DIY 10 more.

Hmm, what is the function of the two lamps?

Hey Joe..

The # 313 lamps are in series with the power rails.  They are kind of a fuse.  If an output
transistor shorts the lamp lights keeping the power rail from shorting therefor the desk
remains operational and smoke free. 8) Got to love old school !

Is there anything "magic" in these lamps? I cant find the 313 (28v 175mA) locally but I can get some 28v 100mA lamps locally.

I really like the idea of the lamps.....

I am using ClassicAPIs GREAT console "erector set" parts. ;D ;D

The Sphere modules are 6.5 inches long so I will have to
cut Some 6061 .125" stock for the side panels as the 500/51 series
stuff is 5.75" long but this will all work out fine.

Cool project.  WRT the M1200B mic pre circuit I would have thought R6 and R7 to be 7R5 but your scheme has 7K5 . Is that a typo?
