Hi all,

Does anyone on here by any chance have a copy of an original schematic of the output balancing, like for instance the main L/R outputs, of the SSL 9000J/K consoles?
Or even that of the AWS or Duality for that matter.

I hope so...

Many thanks

What do you want it for? they used a very complicated method of doing this, you can get better results from a balanced line driver...

Hey, thanks for your reply.

I'm busy working on a 9k mic pre project development. Call me a bit of a purist but I would like to see how they did it & see if it will be practical to use. The way my head works is to want to link designs by the same company together; keeping it in the family & staying as close to the original's sound & character as possible.

I'm well familiar with the balanced line drivers & yes it is a vey quick, easy & convenient manner of doing it & obtaining great results...
None the less I still want to see how the designers at SSL did it.
I have a copy of how it was done on the 4k series consoles but would like to see how they did it on the 9k series.

Here you go... as you can see, this is not an unbalanced to balanced converter, so it probably is not what you want for your application.
The 9J/K is pretty much balanced from input to output (it uses a balanced mixbuss, a seperate VCA for each side of the signal in the master fader & comp, and so on...)

Thank you so much, I really do appreciate it.

It is an intersting config but makes sense.

I will keep you up to date with how the development of the project goes.

I'll have a look at how the channel direct out is generated, that may be an area where actual balancing occurs...

That's gotta be it, because the 9k preamp is unbalanced by it'self. If it uses a balanced mixbus like you say, there's gotta be a balancer in between there somewhere.
