would this somehow be possible?

could this be accomplished by somehow inverting what is happening with the dc signal in the sidechain section?

just exactly the inverse of how it would normally react...where it once would compress a peak, it would expand it instead

just a thought I had as I was waking up from a nap...

thanks,

Chris

Expanders used to be used for recordings of orchestra, or I should say playback. There is a schematic for a tube expander in the RCA tube manual.

hmmm...ok...so much for my post nap idea...

would be cool to make some expanders and gates though...

what about cloning just the expander and gate section on the ssl channel?

having a bunch of those with would be quite handy...has to be less complicated than the buss compressor

Actually, I bet you could make an expander out of it. You'd have to rely on the -ve CV input of the 2150 style VCA's in the audio path. Instead of taking the sidechain to the +ve CV input, move it to the -Ve and where you were getting rain reduction before you will now get an increase in gain. So, it's not downward expansion, but rather upward expansion.

So, it might work....

Cheers,

Kris
