i am thinking to build a custom summing mixer

the basic idea is to have 4x stereo inputs with different pairs of transformers. neve, api, lundahl and sowter

i would like to be able to drive the transformers and get different colors

for the summing stage i would like something very clear and transparent, without transformers probably. maybe it's worth to clone the ssl console summing stage ?

my plan is also to patch stereo compressors on the channels, so i am thinking maybe need an insert point after the transformers ?

to get saturation from the transformers the input level must be quite high, should i add an insert stage with an attenuated level?

i think this machine as an insert box. i do most of the summing in the box, stem out four stereo busses and do some more global compression and eq with analog gear.

so far i have been using a thermionic tube summing mixer but i would like something with more transformer sound

let me know what do you think. i would be very happy to hear some suggestions !
