I recently made quite a nice active summing amp using Jeff Steigers ACA board. This is quite a cheap solution to make some thing that sounds really good

I used 990 op amps for the ACA & the gar 2520 for the fader buffers. i managed to get a stereo Penney & Giles Fader from ebay for £5 to go between the 2 stages. The fader buffer amp has 3 pairs of outputs which I hook 1 pair up to monitors, the 2nd back into my 002 rack for recording my stereo mix, & the 3rd to an RTW plasma meter.
I wired the inputs so that I have 8 centrally panned, 4 on the left & 4 on the right. This enables me to have things like vocals central, but also have stereo inputs for stuff like drums. What I hate is having to mix some things in the box still
All inputs are wired via a B gauge (long frame) patchbay so that I can insert compressors & eq's etc.
It sounds great, but I reckon it still needs some tweeking to optimise it.
The trouble is the minute you get this far you start thinking about some auxilliaries, motor faders, panning etc
The bottom line is I like the functionality of a real desk. I wish there was enough room here to get my trident out of storage
