Tape deck in 500 series format?

Has such a thing ever been made?

Need a tape deck, but I don't really want to dedicate a lot of space to one considering how little I'd use it.
But I do have 1 slot free in my rack...

There are tape emulators,  check out the Neve 542. I think it sounds pretty good.  Think there are also DIY color modules that emulate tape electronics,  but haven't tried those yet.

Hmph.... a real tape desk weighs a few hundred pounds and eats a large amount of 19" rack space.

There were tape recorders as small as a pack of cigarettes. Not music-quality.

That's what "wear a wire" really means: a wire-recorder under your suit. (More time per space on small wire than on cello-tape.)

Some Nagra and StellaVox were nearly this small. Fantastic Swiss engineering. Always cost as much as a car.

Hmmm, I was envisioning more of a slot-loading walkman style cassette deck.  Could be feasible in a 500 series footprint but it would be a nightmare to build.

Get a microcassette dictaphone. Put it in the slot.
